After taking about a year and a half off, I’ve decided to pick it back up again. I’m going to chronicle my year here. I’ll post about the highs and lows of running.
Let me briefly tell you my running history. It was 2009, I know that for a fact because my wife was pregnant with Macy and it was the year of my 30th birthday. I was getting dressed for work one day, putting my slacks on, and I felt pain like I had never felt before. I went straight to the floor. My back was in spasms. I could hardly move. I managed to crawl over to the nightstand and pull the phone over to me. Called my 5 month pregnant wife who was already at work to come home and put me in bed. After I recovered for a couple of days, I decided that turning 30 was not going to be this way, and that I needed to do something about my physical fitness. I began a couch to 5k program and set a goal to run my first 5k on my 30th birthday which was a few months away. I worked hard and did it. That’s when my love of running took off.
In 2010 I ran quite a bit. The weight started to drop off as well, I got down to 215 lbs. I felt better than I ever had, then I “took a little break” and stopped running for a while. 2011-2014 was an on again off again cycle of running. I really started to pick it back up in 2015. I ran over 200 miles in the summer of 2015. Running every other day from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Then again I “took a little break”.
That bring us up to now. I feel horrible. I weigh more than I ever have. I’m tipping the scales at 260 lbs. I decided to run a few times in December to get back into it, then hit 2017 hard with a solid plan. This blog will take you through my adventures on the pavement this year. I’ve set a goal to run 500 miles in 2017. It’ll be tough, but I know I can do it. I would also like to drop 60 lbs this year.
I hit the pavement on a rainy afternoon on 1/2/17. Had the day off, so I was in no rush. I waited for a break in the rain, then headed out in my brand new Asics Kayano 22’s. Only did two miles today, but it’s a solid start.
