New Orleans on New Years: Arrival Day

Fontainebleau State Park — setting up camp

Today was just the kind of day we like. Travel day with no hiccups. We woke up this morning in Vicksburg, MS. We took our time, drank coffee, ate cinnamon rolls, then got the camper travel ready again and hit the road.

We drove about 3.5 hours today, making it to our home for the next 4 nights at Fontainebleau State Park in Mandeville, LA. It on the north side of Lake Ponchertrain and only about a 45 minute drive to New Orleans. We arrived at around 12:30 and spend an hour or so setting up camp. Then we decided to explore the campground. We think we are going to have fun here the next few days. We found 2 hiking trails and the bike trail. Also, the waterfront view is beautiful.

Tonight we relaxed and grilled up some bratwurst and hot dogs. Tomorrow we have a busy day ahead. The plan is to get up early to head to Cafe Du Monde for breakfast, then on to the World War II Museum for the rest of the day. Rain is expected all day so it’s a good day for indoor activities.

For now, it’s time to settle in with a good book and wait for the rain to start pitter pattering on the roof and lulling me to sleep.
