Utah Mighty Five

June 18 – July 3, 2026

We’re hitting the road again. It’s been a few years since we’ve taken off on a big road trip. A lot of life has happened over the last couple of years, busy with jobs and parents, older kid growing up an heading off to college, younger kids becoming busier and busier with activities and school. We’ve taken this time to do several “smaller” trips like cruises, beach trips, and of course that one Thanksgiving in New York City for the parade (that needs it’s own blog). But, here we are, coming back to our traveling roots, hooked up to the camper and ready for another epic two week road trip with our traveling partners, the Babers.

Winslow to Amarillo

Day 14, Monday, July 1, 2026 Travel day #2 is in the books. It was not without a couple of small issues. But, thankfully, we were prepared, and were able to handle situations quickly and efficiently. We left Winslow, AZ around 7:30 am, we think. That’s the thing, we’ve been through 3 time zones in…

Standin’ on the Corner

Day 13, Tuesday, June 30, 2026 Today we officially began our journey back home. It will be a long 3 days of driving but we know our beds and our puppy are at the end of the journey. Our day started out meeting another couple from our hometown! Yep, we were sitting in the campground…

The Narrows

Day 12, Monday, June 29, 2026 Didn’t I say in yesterday’s post that we saved the best for last? We definitely saved the best hike for last. Today’s hike is going down as my favorite of all time. The Narrows is one of the most popular hikes at Zion National Park. Especially for those of…

Zion National Park

Day 11, Sunday, June 28, 2026 We saved the best for last! Zion National Park is #2 in the rankings for most visited national parks according to the National Park Service (we’ve visited #1, Great Smoky Mountains in 2020). I can see why it is so high on the list. This place is breathtaking. The…

Bryce Canyon National Park

Day 10, Saturday, June 27, 2026 What day is it? I really had to think hard to even know what day of the week it is. A vacation is good when you have lost track of the days. Today Jaci, Halli, Macy, Noah and I started out our day with an early morning 3-mile hike…

Running from Fire!

Day 9, Friday, June 26, 2026 Today was move day again. We left Capitol Reef NP and started our drive over to Bryce Canyon NP. One problem though, there was a major fire between us and the next park. We spent a lot of time debating routes, calling campgrounds, and checking websites. By “we” I…

Capitol Reef National Park & Escalante

Day 8, Thursday, June 25, 2026 Today we finished exploring Capitol Reef National Park and made an impromptu trip over to Escalante and the Grand Staircase National Monument. Capitol Reef is a fun, cute park that you can see in a day. We had spent yesterday afternoon doing the scenic drive and picking fruit from…

Travel Day

Day 7, Wednesday, June 24, 2026 Today was move day. We loaded up early and left Moab by around 8am. We didn’t have to move far, just 3 hours west to Torrey, UT where we are visiting Capitol Reef National Park. We were ready to get out of Moab this morning. Moab has been great…

Wrapping Up Moab

Day 6, Tuesday, June 23, 2026 Today was our last day in Moab. We have enjoyed our time here and we made the most of this last day. We started the day with a rafting trip down the Colorado River. We enjoyed the beautiful views and the relaxing float down river. Yes, this rafting trip…

Equipment Upgrade

Day 5, Monday, June 22, 2026 Some days just don’t end up the way you thought they would. Today was that day. Today’s adventure was supposed to be focused around Canyonlands National Park and Dead Horse Point State Park and anything else we thought we could find to see. Our adventure started out just fine.…

Arches National Park

Sunday, June 21, 2026 What a day! Our day started at 4:30 am when we left our campsite to head into Arches National Park. We were determined to make it to Delicate Arch to watch the sunrise over the park. The early wake up call was worth it. We arrived at the trailhead around 5:15,…

Mesa Verde National Park

Day 3, Saturday, June 20, 2026 Today we checked off our 15th National Park from the list, Mese Verde National Park. We actually considered it a bonus park because we didn’t add it to the itenirary until just a week ago. I’m so glad we did. Mese Verde National Park is in southwest corner of…

The Great Durmax Adventure of Cortez

Friday, June 19, 2026 Every family road trip needs a little excitement, right? Friday’s adventure came courtesy of our trusty 2016 Duramax as we made our way through the mountains of New Mexico and Colorado on our journey to Utah. As we climbed higher into the mountains, JB noticed something on his Banks iDash monitor…

Miles, Miles, and More Miles

Day 1, Thursday, June 18, 2026 Today was all driving. A long, long day of driving out of the Arkansas mountains, through Oklahoma, and into the middle of the panhandle of Texas. We left Hot Springs around 7am and arrived in Amarillo, TX around 5:30 this evening. We were all a bit nervous getting on…
