Standin’ on the Corner

Day 13, Tuesday, June 30, 2026

Today we officially began our journey back home. It will be a long 3 days of driving but we know our beds and our puppy are at the end of the journey.

Our day started out meeting another couple from our hometown! Yep, we were sitting in the campground enjoying our morning coffee when a guy yells, “Hey! Lake Hamilton Wolves!” Turns out there was a family from Magnet Cove, a community just across town from us, camped right between the Babers and us. We enjoyed meeting them and sharing our travel adventures. They were also at the end of a two week trip trying to see as many states with their 2 boys as possible. Meeting people is something I love about campgrounds. It is shocking how many Arkansas people we come across in our journeys across the US. I think we met Arkansas people at every park we were at on this trip, whether it was in the campground or out in the parks.

Once we finished our coffee we packed up and hit the road. Today’s travel took us through some beautiful scenery. We went through Grand Staircase/Escalante, over Lake Powell and through Glen Canyon. All of which have beautiful buttes, canyons and deserts.

Tonight we chose to stop in Winslow, AZ. I think Johnny & Scott had had enough of the wind and rough roads today. Winslow was a great place to end our day becaus we got to go “stand on the corner in Winslow, Arizona” this evening. Yes, we had to give our kids a history on Eagles songs, LOL! It was a fun side trip and we got a chance to eat some big greasy burgers right there too. OH, and this is the 100th anniversary for Route 66. We’ve made sure to celebrate that along our travels too!

The next two days will be long travel days. Our plan is to get it done in two days but if necessary we do have an extra day built in to use if we have to. For tonight, I’ll enjoy some downtime and maybe catch up on some e-mails. The real world is already calling us back.
