Running from Fire!

Day 9, Friday, June 26, 2026

Today was move day again. We left Capitol Reef NP and started our drive over to Bryce Canyon NP. One problem though, there was a major fire between us and the next park.

We spent a lot of time debating routes, calling campgrounds, and checking websites. By “we” I mean Johnny & Scott. Apparently this is the first time in history that Utah has been under this particular kind of fire warning. Basically if a fire starts, it will spread and will spread quickly. Most of the state is under a warning to be prepared to evacuate. They did a great job re-routing us around the fire. We did have to go through one town that was on high alert for evacuation, Beaver, UT. I actually got some pictures from the gas station there. The wind was thankfully moving the fire away from that small town at the time we went through.

Fires dodged, we continued our way into Bryce Canyon National Park. We arrived just in time to set up camp, do a scenic drive to get the lay of the land, and then come back to camp to make dinner and relax a bit.

Tomorrow we have at least one hike planned through the hoodoos and then will head on south to Zion National Park!
