Day 6, Tuesday, June 23, 2026
Today was our last day in Moab. We have enjoyed our time here and we made the most of this last day.
We started the day with a rafting trip down the Colorado River. We enjoyed the beautiful views and the relaxing float down river. Yes, this rafting trip was relaxing. Unfortunately, water levels were very low which meant that the rapids were not moving much at all. We didn’t get a thrilling experience but we definitely enjoyed the experience. Jumping into the river for a swim in the middle of a 100 degree day was refreshing, and the views weren’t too bad either.
As the day went along we noticed the haze in the air getting worse and worse and we had the slight smell of smoke. We noticed later in the afternoon that the mountains were were seeing around us were no longer visible. Sure enough, there are multiple wildfires blazing in Utah causing smoke to cover the area. Unfortunately the area we are moving to tomorrow is even closer to the wildfires and the smoke is worse there. We’re keeping an eye on the situation but we intend on making the best of it and doing everything we possibly can
We wrapped up our day going for an evening hike in the Devil’s Garden area of Arches NP to see Landscape Arch. Well, most of us did. Noah and Logan decided they needed some down time and opted to hang back at the camper wrapping up laundry and dishes.
Something we have learned over multiple trips is that hikes in the dessert have to be well timed. You need to either get out their early or late. You cannot safely hike in the middle part of the day. Save the middle part of the day for scenic drives, shopping, or just rest and recharging time (multiple naps were taken the last few days).
Tomorrow we’ll be packing up in Moab and hitting the road to head further west to Torrey, UT where we’ll see Capitol Reef National Park. I’m excited to see what this part of UT has to offer.
