Wandering West, Day 17, Saturday, July 10, 2021
We did it!!!! We traveled 5,108 miles in 17 days with 17 people. We traveled through 7 states, visited 6 National Parks, 1 National Memorial, and 1 National Historic Landmark. We stayed at 10 campgrounds, hiked in 2 state parks, visited 5 Wal-Marts in 5 different states, and ate at too many Love’s Truck Stops to count. And, we did it!!!
Wow, it has been an amazing 17 days. Today we traveled the final leg to home. Half of us started from Amarillo, TX due to the truck issues we had yesterday, and half of us started from Shawnee, OK. Those of us who were in Amarillo got on the road at 6 am to try to make up time from yesterday. We were hoping to catch up with the rest of the crew. Those in Shawnee took their time this morning and even enjoyed breakfast at Crackerbarrel. We almost met up with each other in Fort Smith, we were about 45 minutes apart at that point. But, in the end, those of us behind decided to take the “long way” home and stay on I-40 all the way to Little Rock. We decided this would be best just in case our truck decided to give us issues again. It cost us an extra hour but it gave us some peace of mind.

Thank goodness it ended up being an uneventful day of traveling home. We arrived home around 5:30 this evening and could not have been happier. Now, we did have to break into our own house….yep, sure did. We went off on this epic adventure, and left our house keys at home! 🤣 No biggie, when we got home we found an unlocked window and sent Noah through it, LOL! To make the day even better my parents brought our sweet Maltipoo, Ona, home to us after we arrived home. The kids were ecstatic and so was she.

Tonight we will be sleeping in our own beds, with our little white fluffy dog, and a busy day of unloading ahead of us tomorrow.
