Heads Carolina….We’re on our way!

Travel Day 1, Tuesday, May 23, 2022

Drivers, start your engines! Well, ok, JB, start your engine! We are officially on the road for another JKLMN adventure (and this time we even brought our O). We are traveling to Charlotte, North Carolina, then down the coast of South Carolina and into Georgia to visit Savannah.

Why Charlotte? Well, it’s the home base of many NASCAR teams and this upcoming weekend is one of the crown jewel races of the year, the Coke 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. We plan on spending the first few days visiting the many race shops in the vicinity of Charlotte and going to the NASCAR Hall of Fame. This is a dream trip for Johnny. He’s been a NASCAR fan since he was a child. I can clearly remember when we started dating, knowing that if I wanted to see him on a Sunday, I better be ready to sit in his parent’s living room watching whatever race was on that day with him and his dad. It has taken me 20+ years but he has now turned me into just as big a fan as he is. Yes, I can name every driver, their owners, their manufacturer, and the sponsors. The kids have their favorite drivers too, though they are not quite as obsessed as JB & I.

We’ll spend the second part of the trip making our way down the Carolina coast, visiting Myrtle Beach, Charleston, and Savannah and we plan on throwing in Congaree National Park somewhere in between. After all, it’s not a JKLMN trip without a National Park visit.

Today was a loooooonnnnnngggg day of travel. We left our hometown around 7:30 am (we had every intention of leaving earlier but that just didn’t happen) and arrived at our overnight stop in Anniston, Alabama around 6:30 pm. The day may have been long but it was uneventful and easy driving. I’m thankful we decided to go the south route, I’m not sure my nerves could handle the steep, windy roads of the Smokey Mountains with this camper behind us. Tomorrow will be a shorter travel day but a bit more intense as we have to make our way through Atlanta and then into Charlotte. I can’t wait! Stay tuned as the adventure moves on!
